“I grew up on Tucson’s east side and later attended the University of Arizona (Bear Down!). Through elementary school and beyond, I was always doodling animal characters and loved to recite animal facts and watch documentaries like Plant Earth- always interested in learning more about fascinating creatures that live alongside us. Back then I was told that I should write and illustrate children’s books “when I grow up,” and shortly before I finished college I got the idea for a book series about one of my greatest loves- the ocean! Growing up in the desert made me appreciate the incredible diversity and beauty of the ocean, and especially the coral reef. I splashed into the saltwater aquarium hobby around this time and couldn’t wait to teach others about my tiny ocean and its colorful residents. During this time I learned so much about coral, fish, and the reef biome.
